Labyrinth 2019

A circular labyrinth painted on a wall Pelmo painting on wall with a brush

Acrylic on render. 2m x 2m

This labyrinth has no wrong turns and can be found on the floor of the Chartres Cathedral.

Less than a week after I painted this I returned to find someone had begun drawing a pencil line showing the route, but had given up when they realised there were no wrong turns. I take great pleasure in imagining the dramatic mood change through the 3 states of mind of whoever was holding the pencil. At first, cocky and keen to show-off how smart they are, then the enthusiasm draining to a mild embarrassment as they realise there is no trick to be solved, completion just takes perseverance, and with that, they give up.
